HomeSales.gov consists of a portal designed to provide information to the public regarding properties owned by the government
for public sale. The properties are located throughout the United States including our Commonwealths and Territories in
the Pacific and the Caribbean. The website is an example of inter-Departmental cooperation and was developed as a joint
project led by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), developed by the USDA, and confirmed by the
Department of Veteran Affairs (VA). The portal design was designed at the request of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB)
and under the supervision and coordination of the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
HUD is the largest provider of government backed guarantees to commercial lenders. As a result, the mortgage industry
receives stability as its risk of loss is minimized. This allows families throughout the US the opportunity to own homes
when lenders may not otherwise be willing to extend credit. HUD has a portfolio of over 32,170 guaranteed homes valued at
$2,530,548,291. For more information regarding HUD and our programs, please go to our web site at
www.HUD.gov.
USDA/Rural Development is the largest provider of loans directly from the Federal Government to finance single family housing units
throughout rural America. Over 400,000 home ownership and repair loans are currently outstanding throughout the United States.
Loans are made directly to low and very low income applicants for the purchase, construction, or repair of a home in towns and
villages outside metropolitan areas. In addition, Rural Development provides guarantees in rural areas in instances where lenders
wish to make loans for the purchase of homes in rural America. For more information about Rural Development please go
to our web site at www.rurdev.USDA.gov.
The Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) is the newest Department within the Executive Branch of the Federal Government. The
Department of Veterans Affairs Home Loan Guaranty Programs serves a diverse clientele. The common denominator in the clientele
is service in the Armed Forces of the United States. Since the program began in 1944 the VA has guaranteed more than 17.3 million
loans totaling over $811 billion dollars. In addition to serving our veterans, the Veterans Affairs markets acquired properties
to the public and makes available in-house financing under its vendee sales program. In partnership with HUD and USDA the VA is
attempting to make homeownership affordable to all citizens. To find out more about VA and its programs go to our web site at
